It seems State Senator Steve Hershey has a lot of thought on hypotheticals or potential ideas, but his recent commentary (“When families go hungry, the lottery should pause,” Oct. 27) falls short without placing blame on the leaders of his party for firing over 15,000 Maryland federal workers, ripping health care away from 200,000 Marylanders and taking away food assistance from the 684,000 Marylanders who rely on it for their groceries.

Senator, Maryland doesn’t need clever schemes to pin your opponent down or trap him in a tight financial choice. Maryland needs a leader who will stand up to President Donald Trump as he delivers direct blows to the state, not another spineless politician. To date, you’ve been silent on that front, and as long as you are, you will never serve as the governor of Maryland.
