On. Dec. 14, 2012, a gunman killed 20 first-grade children and six adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones falsely claimed the shooting was a hoax staged by crisis actors. Families of the victims sued and ultimately won a $1.4 billion judgment.
